When George spoke, we should have listened

If I were Donald Trump's campaign manager, this is about as close as I'd let him get to a microphone.  And I'd delete his Twitter account, too.

All he had to do is pose pretty with his family for the next 100 days and show up for his inauguration.  Between getting caught stumbling from scandal to scandal and ducking whatever WikiLeaks is going to throw at her next, Hillary was doing her best to hand this election to him.

But then The Donald took the bait and said he "sacrificed" as much as Mr & Mrs Kahn's son who died in service to our country.  Wha....what?

I'm sure Donald Trump is a smart man.  His grades in college showed it, his classmates said so, and his bank account validates it, too.  So then why does he say such stupid things?  Has old age somehow disconnected his brain from his mouth?

But here's the strangest part:  This may not necessarily kill his election chances.  Hillary Clinton "talks the talk", but she doesn't "walk the walk".  She's likely do something stupid herself, like getting caught on a hidden camera a la Mitt Romney saying something derogatory about a group she needs, which will even the odds again.

Bottom line....we're being held hostage by a closed two-party political system that gives us bad options.

Now more than ever, we should remember the words of George Washington:

“However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”

  1. Trump's weakness is his thin skin and yes, he took the bait. Hillary has the same weakness, but she is more experienced at waiting and dodging before responding. Just like when you respond with an email in anger it is always a good idea to wait a day before hitting send...Donald's mouth hits send right away. He'll learn, but maybe to late.

  2. Why couldn't he just say, "All of America appreciates the great sacrifice the Khans made" and leave it at that?

We would have never heard of the Khans again.

    1. Bingo! That would have been not just the politically correct thing to say, but the absolute accurate and correct thing to say. He needs to learn not to attack EVERY time he feels attacked like most politicians have learned.

  3. At the Republican Convention, a mother of one of the Benghazi victims accused Hillary of murder, yet Hillary had the good grace to keep her mouth shut. Yes, she has faults but I'd be less afraid having her as president than I would Donald Trump.

    1. I agree she does think before she speaks. Still, IMO, they are both very flawed candidates. I simply do not like the stranglehold the two entrenched parties have on the electorate. I want more choices.

    2. I think I read where Hillary claims the woman in her grief misunderstood what she said...Yeah, that's it, that's the story.

  4. Not defending him, but I did watch the interview with George S, 3 times. This has been twisted by media big time. It is totally out of context. I agree he should stay quiet, since anything can be used any way against him. George S, took down Bill Clinton in his book, which I still have. Politics is nasty for all involved.

Is that the same interview where he said he doesn't have a relationship with Putin and later there was a earlier tape shown where he states, "I have a relationship with Putin"? Seriously, the guy is a walking contradiction.

  5. Just when you think Trump can't sink lower, he manages to find a way.

  6. I'm sorry to wake you up but, Trump is scum. Little boy scum. Hillary has worked all her life to do good things for America. Can there really be a choice?

    1. Bruce, it seems to me you are as blind to Hillary's shortcomings and questionable actions as you are prejudiced against Donald Trump. Neither is fault-free, and IMO upon close examination are seriously flawed. Maybe it's our two-party system as it exists now...truly good, qualified people are repelled by it. We need a massive overhaul of our political system. We need to see it opened up to all, not just to party hacks. The people WANT it opened up, as evidenced by their jumping onto Trump's bandwagon simply because he was an "outsider". Now they're questioning whether he is the "right" outsider, or just the only outsider in a field of 17.
