Oh my, the internet is on FIRE today.  Nasty political name calling is rampant.   It seems like we're on the verge of a coast-to-coast cage match.

From a slightly different perspective, let me ask you this:  Eventually Special Counsel Robert Mueller will come back with the findings of his year-long investigation.  If you're a PRO-Trumper, and the news comes back saying there WAS collusion between the Trump camp and Russia, will you accept the findings, after a trial by jury?  And if you're an ANTI-Trumper, and the news comes back saying there was NO collusion between the Trump camp and Russia, will you accept the findings?

Regardless of your preference, if you say you will NOT accept the findings of a thorough investigation (pending a proper trial if applicable) if it goes against your preferred outcome, then I contend you're an ANARCHIST.  You're not a patriot, or a loyal American, but a traitor to the principles our country was founded on. You're an ANARCHIST.

Of course you can have an opinion, and you can bemoan a decision that goes against how you personally believe.  But if enough of you no longer care about democracy and the rule of law, then America is finished.   FINIS!  Turn out the lights....

So then what?  Is it every man for himself?  Do our AR-15's suddenly become useful for more than just "recreation"? And if the United States of America someday disintegrates, who's the big winner?  Who will be the world's BIG DOG still standing?  Think about that.

I say we'd best come back to reality, take a deep breath, and work together for the good of the country.

Country over politics!

  1. You must be one of those dreamers Trump was talking about.

  2. I think the bigger problem is when Trump fires Mueller or has Sessions or someone else do it for him. We've seen already the Republicans have no backbone, probably because they're getting dirty Russian money too.

As people have pointed out, the Republican backlash pretty much began when Mueller's team started looking into Deutsche Bank. So the likely scenario is that thanks to Citizens United the dirty Russian money flowed into GOP coffers as well as Trump's and to save themselves they'll find some excuse to allow Trump to fire Mueller and try to install some puppet who will do what they want and come up with the result they want.

At that point what do we do? We can go out in the streets and protest, but how long do you really think people are going to do that? We can call and send emails and faxes to our representatives, but Republicans aren't going to do anything. And then what? We try to vote them out in November? What about when that fails? I don't think most Americans (including myself) have the stomach for a lengthy protest against the corrupt government. We just want to go to work, come home, watch TV, and go to bed. Until something really interferes with that we might piss and moan, but we won't launch a revolution or anything.

  3. Yeah...what Pat said. Who's got time for a revolution? We're all too busy and tired from working so much. People will grumble and post and be ticked off on Facebook and Twitter, but more than that? And if you ask me, whatever Mueller says won't change that.

Remember how many times Hillary Clinton was investigated because of Benghazi? People still grumble and post and are ticked off on Facebook about it.

  4. Betina, Pat...I disagree that we aren't capable of having a revolution in America. The critical point is our definition of "revolution". If your definition is an army wearing one color uniform fighting against a bunch of rebels under the leadership of a military hierarchy (Continental army under GW vs British redcoats), I agree that isn't going to happen. And I doubt people like you or I will be actively involved as we have a roof over our head, heat and AC, food in the pantry, reliable transportation, health care, etc. But there are too many people, and the number is growing, who don't have those things. There are Americans right this second who are hungry. And parents are taking in their grown kids and grandkids as they have no where else to live. And if they get sick they go to the hospital, knowing they can't pay the bill when they leave. Those are the ones who will riot in poor cities, or even on the poor side of well-to-do cities, and that will scare the beejeebers out of our establishment leaders. If this sort of domestic terrorism goes on long enough it will affect our businesses and stock market. 401K's will take a hit, and the comfortable middle class will begin to feel less comfortable. Layoffs will pick up, and dissatisfaction among the lower middle class will be affected, too, and they'll join in, then it keeps spreading, on and on. We could conceivably in my scenario have a major shakeup in how we are governed, and our national priorities could be radically different than what they are today. And it might all happen so slowly, like the hands moving across a clock, they we don't fully understand what's going on. It won't just be one big battle, winner take all. Our foundation will slowly crumble. That's what I fear if we don't make changes today to head all this off.

  5. I think another possibility is just that we've reached the end of whatever you want to call it, 'american exceptionalism', 'american supremacy', 'leader of the free world', etc, is at an end. If you look back at history, dominant countries last about 100 to 400 years, with some exceptions far, far back. We weren't a 'dominant' country until after WW1, really until WW2....I think it's quite possible we are in the descent part of our history, and China is ascending. We could be one of those countries like France, that have waxed and waned, but changed radically in those periods. I think without some kind of radical change the US is on it's way down. We may have better periods in the future, but it won't be what we are thinking of right now. Perhaps we may not even be one country.
We are divided, as all have noted, and for a large percentage of the population, that's what they want.
    Just a thought.

    1. Excellent perspective, Mike. The comparison to France seems very appropriate. An enlightened nation that gave us modern democracy, a period of great power and influence, then escaping WWI by the grace of God, all but broke, to where they are today. Waxing and waning is a very good way to describe them. I don't necessarily think we're past the point of no return, but we need to acknowledge we have problems; our class envy is headed toward class warfare if we aren't careful, and our inequality needs to be addressed. We can do it, which isn't to say we WILL do it. TBD.
