Cars & Coffee, February, 2013

Today being the first Saturday of the month meant all the cool cars in town congregated in Plano for Cars & Coffee.   The weather was perfect and the sky was clear and sunny, which felt great but played havoc with camera angles/shadows.  I arrived at 7:15 to a full house, and during the two hours I was there more cars kept coming and coming and....

(You can click on any image to enlarge.)

I'm guessing there were at least 1,500 cars there on display, with 2 or 3 times that many people viewing.  Display parking became totally gridlocked.

There seemed to be an abundance of specific-make car clubs attending, such as Lotus. Unfortunately for me, except for the Evora ^ I'm not much of a Lotus fan.

It must be a redneck thing.  Can anyone explain to me why you'd do this to a perfectly good truck?

Being the oddball that I am I'm drawn to oddball cars, too, like this Citroen DS.

Being an Alfaholic, you can imagine how much these Alfa Romeo's stirred me.

An Alfa Romeo Giulia (GTA?).  Oh, be still my heart!

Look!  It's a Lamborghini....no, it's a Transformer....no, it's a....

The best paint job seen today....REALLY nice!

My favorite license plate of the day (on a Shelby GT 500).

My least favorite license plate of the day (on a Chevy "Fiberglass Coffin").

Why?

Would you believe they wouldn't take my check?

Now what are the odds all four shocks would go bad at the same time?

A Bentley Continental.  Shhhh....if you listen carefully you can hear it depreciating.

And finally, proof that money can't always buy good taste....
(Ouch!  This one's gonna get me in trouble!)

....while at other times it definitely can!

Hope you enjoyed  :)

SCORE!......and car pics, too.

Grandson Parker scored twice yesterday.  Once was on the field where he scored his first soccer goal.  The other was on the sideline where he romanced this little girl:

Looks like Parker is a player!

He loves baseball, but so far has shown no interest at all in soccer.  (At one point during the game he just walked off the field to go to the bathroom!)  Later we watched as he literally escorted this young lady to the sideline and set them both up a chair.  They were inseparable the rest of the game.  Did I mention he's THREE!  (I'm with him.  Gimme a choice between soccer or the ladies....I'd take the ladies every time, too.)

Oklahoma spanked my Red Raiders pretty hard yesterday, 41-20.  Bummer.  :(

I understand Cranky Old Man and maybe a few others are going through withdrawal because I missed Cars and Coffee yesterday and have no new photos to offer.  Always aiming to please, I've gone into my old car photo archive and can share these from past events:

A really sweet classic Maserati 3500....

....and it's contemporary, a MGA.

As long as we're doing sports cars, how about a Triumph TR-6?  Nice, huh?

My weekend Rolls Royce.  *dream on*  "It doesn't cost any more to go first class.  You just can't afford to go quite as often."

While much maligned, this is one of the few BMW's I like....a Z4M Coupe.

Here's the other....a Z8.

A "quirky" Citroen 2CV.  (Think French VW Beetle....a post-war "people's car".)

Another oddity I'd love to own....a Volvo P1800.  (Remember The Avengers?)

An achingly beautiful Alfa Romeo 8C.

A 1968 (?) Camaro SS....in my yoot it was what every 17-year-old boy in America wanted, except for a 17-year-old girl, that is.  ;)

OK, that's enough for now.  I've gotta save a few for later.  Hope you're all having a good weekend.

It doesn't get any better than today

Fun, fun! I had it in abundance today.  Things started as usual for a Sunday....church....Starbucks and the newspaper....but then we headed off to the British and European Car Day at White Rock Lake.  Where to start?

How about a line of old and new Mini's a block long

This was my favorite of the Mini's on display

The same with Triumph's....a block of these ^

and these ^

A very nice MG TF (?)

Then we get to the aristocracy....

Austin Healey's....yes, it's leaking....they do that

And luscious Jaguar's, too

The strangest car there had to be this post-war Citroen 2CV, a contemporary of the original VW Beetle

If K had had her checkbook with her this could have been a very expensive day.  I think she would have written the guy a check on the spot for this new Fiat 500 convertible ^

I managed to hustle her out of there before she did, so instead we dropped a few bucks at The Blue Goose on a couple of margaritas and some chips and salsa.  Now we're back at su casa, where K is fixin' us some lobster tail for dinner that Central Market had on sale yesterday.  Mmmmmm!

We'll shortly wind down the day by watching When in Rome for movie night. Told you it was a fun day.  :)

Hope y'all had a good day, too.
