SCORE!......and car pics, too.

Grandson Parker scored twice yesterday.  Once was on the field where he scored his first soccer goal.  The other was on the sideline where he romanced this little girl:

Looks like Parker is a player!

He loves baseball, but so far has shown no interest at all in soccer.  (At one point during the game he just walked off the field to go to the bathroom!)  Later we watched as he literally escorted this young lady to the sideline and set them both up a chair.  They were inseparable the rest of the game.  Did I mention he's THREE!  (I'm with him.  Gimme a choice between soccer or the ladies....I'd take the ladies every time, too.)

Oklahoma spanked my Red Raiders pretty hard yesterday, 41-20.  Bummer.  :(

I understand Cranky Old Man and maybe a few others are going through withdrawal because I missed Cars and Coffee yesterday and have no new photos to offer.  Always aiming to please, I've gone into my old car photo archive and can share these from past events:

A really sweet classic Maserati 3500....

....and it's contemporary, a MGA.

As long as we're doing sports cars, how about a Triumph TR-6?  Nice, huh?

My weekend Rolls Royce.  *dream on*  "It doesn't cost any more to go first class.  You just can't afford to go quite as often."

While much maligned, this is one of the few BMW's I like....a Z4M Coupe.

Here's the other....a Z8.

A "quirky" Citroen 2CV.  (Think French VW Beetle....a post-war "people's car".)

Another oddity I'd love to own....a Volvo P1800.  (Remember The Avengers?)

An achingly beautiful Alfa Romeo 8C.

A 1968 (?) Camaro SS....in my yoot it was what every 17-year-old boy in America wanted, except for a 17-year-old girl, that is.  ;)

OK, that's enough for now.  I've gotta save a few for later.  Hope you're all having a good weekend.

Dateline: Hotter 'n Hell, Texas

It's really odd for me to see weather reports from YankeeLand (defined as any place north of the Texas/Oklahoma border...aka the Red River) where it's hotter than it is here in Hell...er...Texas.  We're expecting 104 today, but it will feel more like 110 the weatherguessers warn.  While many will be at the area lakes today trying to keep cool, I won't be one of them.  Lakes just seem dirty to me, plus fish poop in there!

This would be much more my style, except on weekends it seems to be overrun with little kiddlettes.  I'm guessing all the divorced dad's get their DNA for the weekend and park them here while they admire the stunning 'birds' lounging around, showing off their attractive plumage.

Before it gets too much hotter K and I are making a run to the farmer's market for some cantaloupe, watermelon, corn, and whatever else looks good.  Probably have a bite to eat out, too.  I'm also going to Lowe's for some wood filler, as my dog Luke all of a sudden seems to think he's part beaver:

This particular window sits right on the floor, perfect for him to sit and see the world outside.  Apparently he was too lazy to get up and walk to his dog bowl, and this was the result.

That's all for now.  I've got to burn up the roads and get back before the concrete melts.  Stay cool everyone.

A good weekend....

I got up earlier than I wanted on Saturday to take the dog out and found to my dismay that yet another charity had yet another 5K run going on, and it was being staged in MY neighborhood.  Again.  I'm all for charities making a buck, but why must I walk out my door what seems like every other Saturday to find 10,000 people milling around, PA systems blaring, and golf carts whizzing by?  Why can't they start one from some other neighborhood once in a while?  Then they had the major roads closed for the run all morning, meaning a normal 2-mile trip took me on a 4-mile runaround.  I managed to not run any of 'em over....K calls it "peaceful co-existence".

I dumped off a car load of old records....literally, my car had 15 boxes of files in it....at the shredders later Saturday morning, and after that I had a day free of chores.  I went to REI and visited my kayak, which they are kindly holding for me until I can scrape a few more dollars together and find a place to keep it.

The highlight of my weekend was watching my alma mater Texas Tech play #1 ranked Oklahoma Saturday night on TV.  After a 2-hour delay because of a huge storm in the area (Norman, OK) Tech whipped up on them convincingly, winning 41-38.  It really wasn't as close as the final score indicates.  How was that possible?  Tech always has a great offense, but defense is usually just an abstract theory to them. Saturday they must have slipped in some ringers as our defense pretty much kept OK* in check.  They scored 2 late touchdowns to make it semi-interesting, but by then the stands were half empty.  *happy dance*

So that was my 1-day weekend (had to work Sunday).  Didn't kill any runners, goofed off, watched Texas Tech kick ass.  Told you it was a good weekend.  ;)

*Why do Oklahoma's license plates say "Oklahoma is OK"?  Because they can't spell "mediocre".  (Sorry, that was mean.  Funny, but mean. ;)
