I find it ironic that the Tea Party folks put Ronald Reagan on a pedestal and revere him. Ronald Reagan was a pragmatic conservative and will probably go down in history as a consensus Great President. I think if Reagan was alive and in good mental health today he would put a lot of distance between himself and the in-your-face, no-compromise-no-way Tea Party.
Things extreme seldom work out well....
What we need is more....
I'm "S", and I approved this message.
Well done. I agree. I think the Tea Party is in answer to the extreme left side of the isle who is also not very well known for compromise.
ReplyDeleteApparently bi-partisan means the other side agreed with us.
I think Reagan would have been friends with anyone who would support him. And I don't agree that he was a great president.
ReplyDeleteBut that's just me.
Say "S," where can I contribute to your Action Committee?
ReplyDeleteSteve....You'd think someone with some legitimate pragmatic credentials would step up, but they're all too scared to step on Tea Party toes. Pity!
ReplyDeleteBruce....I heard Reagan was actually good friends with Tip o'Neil. There's no reason they couldn't/shouldn't have been. Something like that would be helpful today. Nobody up there now trusts anyone on the other side.
Regarding Reagan; Of course everyone has their opinion, but many, me included, think he did a masterful job nudging the USSR along to dissolution. Not too much pressure, not too little pressure, but just right
Joe....Absolutely the liberal side has their equally uncompromising group, and they too are obstacles. They're just not as loud, and they don't have a catchy name.

I agree that in the eyes of today's Tea Party, Reagan would be suspiciously eyed as somewhat of a liberal...
ReplyDeleteI know Reagan liked to claim credit of The Wall falling and the USSR falling apart, but I think that had more to do with oil prices being at rock-bottom lows and the USSR just plain running out of money.
