The true essence of baseball

What do you get when you cross an Aston Martin with a Premiership Champion (rugby) Northampton Saints fan?  This:

I'm impressed!

Here's a question for you baseball fans....when you go to a game do you actually go to watch the game, or to just eat hot dogs and nachos and drink beer?

Last night about 8:30 I took Luke the Wonder Dog out and noticed they were playing a Frisco Rough Riders game at our minor league ballpark a couple blocks away.  It was a delightful evening, about 72 degrees, no humidity, slight breeze, and I was suddenly overcome by the desire to go to a game there tonight.

All I really wanted was some ballpark food, which is always better than the same thing if it were served at home.  Sorta like eating some canned crap food sitting around a camp fire.

But, hey, sometimes you gotta take the bitter with the sweet.  I would willingly sit there and dodge foul balls for some gooey junk food.  I aaaaalmost had K convinced we should go, but then she had a momentary flash of sanity and laughed in my face.

When negotiations concluded she'd promised me some fake cheese (the staple of world-class ballpark nachos) over some fresh chips /w plenty of jalapenos, served to me in my chair high up on our balcony if I would let her off the hook.

Cold beer is a given.  SOLD!  Congress should take note.....THIS is how you compromise.  :)

  1. Baseball is slow enough that you have plenty of time to stuff your face and get drunk without missing much. Football is pretty much that way too anymore, at least the pro level with the constant commercial breaks. It's a lot harder at a hockey game, though that's what intermission is for. What I never get is why people go to watch golf. All that walking around and you can't really see all the good players probably, you have to be really quiet most of the time or some caddy will attack you, and there's not probably even any good junk food! At least horse racing you have mint juleps.

  2. There is good food on the PGA tour, and it is amazing watching the skill level of those great players. If people don't get it they should not watch it, but no need to put it down. Baseball is a little slow if you don't understand or appreciate the nuances of the game, but a hot dog never tastes as good as it does at the ballpark. And this month I will be cheering for the USA in the World Cup, even though I don't really understand soccer.

  3. I remember going to Candlestick Park to see the Giants play when I was a kid. I still remember those being the best hotdogs I've ever eaten. I can't remember if the Giants won or not.

  4. It's been too long, but I enjoyed the food and game. Go A's.

  5. I've been to a number of Diamondbacks games over the past few years but I go with my friend who quit drinking 20 some years ago so getting drunk is out. I have found the ballpark food to be tasty but way too expensive. So I usually watch the game and the pretty young girls in the crowd. 'Course I grew up in a family that loved baseball. And I've always loved pretty young girls.

  6. I'm with Joeh when he wrote, ...If people don't get it they should not watch it.... I don't "get" any sport. Sigh. My ex-husband used to coach high school football and he asked me to came and watch a practice once. I brought a book. I swear, that was the beginning of the end... :-)
