Here in Tampa, Red Bull sponsors "Flugtag" - a day when all sorts of people take their creations (looking oddly similar to the ones in your pictures) and try to fly them. It happens right on the Tampa Bay, so the planes (if you want to call them that) all end up in the water. The one that stays in the air the longest, wins.
I've only seen Flugtag on TV - I hear it's very crowded.
Wow imagine catching air like the one picture, hope the landing was smooth.

I was wondering about that too. I didn't know these machines left the ground. And I thought a Soap Box Derby was for the kids!
