The world's most dysfunctional people!

I'm so sick and tired....have been for years....of opening the paper every morning and reading about one crisis after another in the Middle East.  If they're not killing each other, they're blowing something up.  I swear, those people could fuck up a one car funeral procession!

I understand the hazards of drilling for more oil domestically, and building more wind farms on the prairie, and producing more energy via nuclear plants, etc, but damn, we REALLY need to do whatever it takes to be energy self-sufficient so we can cut ties with the Middle East.

I know that developing their oil industry a century ago seemed like a good idea at the time, but I don't think we understood what ignorant barbarians we were dealing with.  This has turned out to be yet another example of unintended consequences.  Ours has proven to be a marriage made in hell!

There are many parts of the world that we barely recognize....we send them old reruns of Dallas and The Three Stooges, and they send us produce and flowers.  Honestly, if the Middle East didn't have oil, would we give them the time of day?  We need to make them one of "those parts of the world".

It seems like half our diplomatic corps is engaged one way or another in trying to arrange peace between Israel, the Palestinians, the Shiites, the Sunnis, and all the rest of those obscure rock-chuckin' tribes.  They've been at each other's throats for centuries.  I doubt they're gonna sit down now and happily break bread together just because we ask them to.

I say we need to conserve as much as we can and to rely on ourselves and our dependable allies for our energy needs. Then we can tell the Middle East to go play grenade-toss with each other.  We, and our checkbook, are outta here!

  1. I try to be liberal and open-minded and tolerant but these people really get my goat. I mean some ass posts a YouTube video so you decide to go kill the US ambassador? In what freaking universe does that logic make any freaking sense? It was the same thing when that Dutch guy made a cartoon of Mohammad--let's all go grab the pitchforks and torches and kill the nearest Westerners! That'll show 'em!

It is really hard to remember at times like this that the people who do this crap are a very small percentage of the overall population. Still, I can't help thinking sometimes like you that it'd be great if we could just carpet bomb the whole place into a parking lot.

  2. I hear you PT. I'd like to be more tolerant, but they just won't let me. You point out that the troublemakers are a small percentage of the population, but polls in the Mid-East show there is HUGE support among the general population for those who foment trouble. Don't know about carpet bombing them, but I'd just like for us to be able to go our separate ways. They can pursue their 12th Century lifestyle, and we can pursue our 21st Century lifestyle.

  3. PT, according to what I've read, the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the You Tube video. The opinion now is that it was a well-planned attack by an Al Qaeda-affiliated group. Remember the date: September 11th.

As for Scott's point, I think it's too late for isolationism, no matter how appealing that sounds.

  4. THank you, now I don't have to do a similar post. These people are ignorant violent backward puppets. They treat their women like sheite and then expect 72 virgins when they go to heaven for cutting off a few heads. Tolerance? huh. I don't like th 15 min movie mocking their religion, the movie I never would have heard of without their stupid riots. Jeeze, some ass puts a cross in a bottle of urine and calls it art and Christians let that insult slide, some cartoonist puts a bomb on a person named mohammed and the whole mid-east erupts with violence against anyone wh0 doesn't kneel and pray 18 times a day. F U you backward, violent intolerant goat friggin douchebags!!

    Peace

  5. Amen Sir, You are so right here, we need to cut ties with them and fend for ourselves so to say, we have enough energy sources to take care of ourselves without bowing down to or tolerating their actions.

  6. Doesn't most of our imported oil come from Canada? Still, the Arab countries will sink back into the sand once the West stops buying their oil because they have absolutely no other products to offer.

  7. I think the biggest problem is they think we care what they do. Western politicians have spent the last decade plus pussy footing around them like we are afraid of them. All most westerners want is for them to just leave is out of their petty disagreements. They can do what they want within their own borders. I'd guess they realize they are so insignificant the only way to get attention is to act-out like a 3 year old. If the west would have acted earlier I doubt we'd have these antics going on now.

  8. Interesting back and forth here...food for thought on an issue we have to address. I don't think we can be isolationist, but I do think we can do much more to promote alternatives to dependence on petroleum. Once we move beyond petroleum, this will matter less. There will still be conflicts between religions and within religion, but they won't be funded by oil profits as they are now. We went to bed with the Saudis decades ago because of oil, and now those chickens have come home to roost. The solution is finding alternatives to fossil fuels, and finding them quickly. That changes the game at a fundamental level.
