My take on Super Bowl XLVIIIIII....

Well of course it was.  Who can resist an ad featuring a cute puppy and big, beautiful Clydesdales?

Super Bowl XLVIII is now in the history book, and it begs the question, "Why don't we just call it Super Bowl 48?"  Honestly, this is 2014, not MMXIV.

This morning they were calling the ads "epic", but I didn't see it that way.  Did you?  Yes, the Bud puppy was great, the Doritos ad with the kid riding the dog was cute (Note to next year's advertisers:  include a dog and you can't lose), the familiar faces in the Radio Shack ad were interesting, and I enjoyed the Maserati Ghibli ad right at the first, mainly because I didn't see it coming, but most of the rest were IMO just OK.  

And the Cheerios ad where the kid negotiated for a puppy along with a new brother was cute.  Oh, and the Seinfeld and George and Newman spot was pretty good.  Come to think of it, I guess it was a good Super Bowl ad day.

The game, however, was lousy.  There's just no other way to describe it.  I think Seattle coach Pete Carroll out-coached Denver's John Fox all over the field.  I was for Denver, or more accurately I was for Peyton Manning, but I'm happy for Seattle as I really like their city and their team.


Meanwhile, back in Denver, all the faithful had to say was, "Oh, wow....was that today?"

  1. Manning's secured his legacy as the Alex Rodriguez of football, only without the scummy steroids stuff--yet. He's great in the regular season but average to abysmal in the postseason. Somehow his little brother ended up with the clutch gene in the family.

    It was another year of meh ads. The Maserati one made no sense as who can afford a Maserati except the 1%? I mean most of us I doubt even know where to find a Maserati dealer. Someone should tell Radio Shack there's already a cell phone store on every corner and you can buy Beats headphones cheaper on Amazon so their transformation would have been better like 10 years ago. For me Radio Shack is just the place to go when I need a weird size battery and don't want to wait days to get it from Amazon.

    1. A little sour today, are we Pat? You're right, Peyton choked, but I honeslty don't think any QB could have done much against Seattle's smothering pass rush and coverage. And Radio Shack....I didn't say I would shop there. I just said the faces from the past were interesting.

    2. I couldn't be happier with how that game turned out. I didn't say you did shop at Radio Shack; I'm pointing out the fundamental flaw with their business. It's the same problem Best Buy has, which really by this time next year we could be without either chain or with both near the end of their spiral into nonexistence. Like Blockbuster Video and numerous department store chains their primary business is rapidly becoming obsolete. A funny commercial and remodeling stores isn't going to fix that.

  2. It was a lousy game! We've been spoiled the last 8 years, this was back to the usual crappy game. I no longer do the Super Bowl party thing...ok, no one invites me, but it is much better without all the ladies who don't give one hoot about the game shushing everyone when the ads come on and then blab about the half-time show during the 3rd quarter. I did not even watch the ads, put my nose in my computer when they came on. Mrs. C saw the cheerios ad and screamed, "FOUR YEAR OLDS NEGOTIATING WTH THEIR PARENTS IS NOT CUTE!!!" I didn't see it yet.

    1. Sheesh....sound like you and Mrs C lost a few $$$ on the game. But you're right, it was just like many of the past Super Bowls...lousy.

  3. It came on TV at 1 am in Germany, but I didn't sit up .I admit I was surprised when I read the results this morning. As for the adds, I'll search for them on the computer. I will sit up next year when the Raiders are in the big game. I know what you're thinking, he'll be in bed early next year as well.

I didn't watch the whole game and I only saw a few ads, but I liked the one where the kid is miserable at prom b/c the girl he likes is dancing with this show-off douche named Sean and Sean has stats and telestrator arrows like a football star b/c its not your team playing in the SB, and I was thinking "This is a really clever ad... what is it for?" ... Turbotax?!?!? what the...?

  5. I still think Peyton Manning is a class act, on and off the field. Everyone has a bad day. I wasn't blown away by the commercials, but I was pleased this event was pulled off without mishap.

    1. Anyone who would say Payton can't play in the clutch is a numbskull! U R correct, he is a big time class act and a great quarterback. He's won a Super Bowl, he's got into 3 SB's and won 5 NFL MVP's. He played miserably yesterday as did his whole team and still signed autographs after the game. I can't believe I am even arguing the clutch comment from PD...waste of time...some people never have anything positive to say about anyone or anything!

  6. Not very good ads. Denver was not on it and Seattle was absolutely on their game. That is how it can go sometimes. People have the strangest reactions to things. It was painful, but on another day things could have been reversed. Glad I had no money on it. I was more for Denver. It' friggin show business. People seem to get it confused with politics and religion

  7. Wow am I the only one who enjoyed that game?

    As for ads the Doritos Time Machine and the Muppet's car jacking were my Fav's.

    The half time show did not rock my boat though.

  8. We didn't watch the game or the ads. However, I had to google "Bruno Mars" after my Facebook feed seemed to explode with comments about him (during the break in the middle, I'm guessing?).
