Monkey see, monkey do

Reading the news online this morning I saw this:

The State Department recently warned that no one attending the Olympics should expect privacy, noting that Russian law “permits the monitoring, retention and analysis of all data that traverses Russian communication networks, including Internet browsing, email messages, telephone calls and fax transmissions.”

Umm....haven't the US Courts ruled that our government can do the same thing?  It's only at the whim of our leaders (from both parties) that we don't.  Or do we???

Think about that, Comrade.

  1. You are right! I predict a comeback of clandestine meetings in quiet parks at dusk, near rain-covered benches, with people turning up the collars to their trench coats.

    1. Sounds like the plot for a Frederick Forsyth novel. I'm just not sure I'll like the ending.

  2. I wish I had something pithy to say about this. I want my freedom but I also want to be safe from terrorists, if such a thing is possible.

  3. No matter how corrupt and stupid our horrible Government and no matter how evil the current administration is I hardly believe that everything on the internet is....just a minute....on the phone now?

    They said what?

Like I was saying, I don't believe our government would ever monitor the internet, they are too concerned with our rights of privacy, and too honest to ever do that!

Now this comment will be viewed by some ad hock agency. They key on specific keywords and through delay, catch the session and then it gets a look see. Hi guys...I miss working with you.

  5. I think the only way to have privacy these days is to live off the grid so to speak...but I like coffee and those little k-cups and I don't like having to turn tree bark into coffee ....so off the grid is not for me.
