Old habits are hard to break

What happened to our nice, uncluttered, minimalist, downsized lifestyle?  Five years ago we gave away, sold away, and threw away tons of seldom-if-ever used stuff and cut the size of our living quarters by 2/3.  Surprisingly, everything fit comfortably, and life was a lot more relaxed.

OK, slight exaggeration.

Now we're moving again and we're going through our "stuff" to see what we can ditch and not have to move, even if the move is just to the other side of our building.  OMG....where did all this crap come from?  Without even realizing it we've brought back in over time a few (OK, a lot) of new books, magazines, small appliances, "gizmos"....the list goes on and on.

Today it's a load to Half Price Books for disposal, then on to the stores to buy the new stuff we're going to need for our new place.

Ummmm....DOH!

    1. Almost all of my new books are on my iPad/Kindle, as are many of my mag subscriptions, but some are specialty and availabe only at the bookstore. K reads some wierd stuff that Kindle won't touch because only her and one guy in a cabin in Idaho would read it.

  3. I have moved about 20 times in my life. I can relate.

We've lived in our current house for almost six years. It's about time we play the "let's pretend we're moving" game and do some serious decluttering. Spare bedrooms are the devil!

Hey, at least you won't have to deal with a moving truck and packing stuff in boxes! I'm sort of picturing you and Kelly carrying stacks of plates and cups across hallways... :-)

    1. We moved FROM a two-bedroom for that very reason...that's where stuff you never should have bought in the first place winds up. The move will be simple. Lifting will amount to raising furniture 6" up onto a furniture dolly, rolling it down the hall, up one floor on an elevator, then straight to our new apt. And we're doing it over 3 days....easy. *famous last words* ;)

  4. the books are my fault - I am a very proud book junkie! And kitchen gadgets - those are mine too! Hey - I am just not ready to be a "minimalist" with only 100 items to my name which can all fit neatly in a backback - BLEH! That's no way to live! (I mean really you haven't even started moving yet and your already complaining about how much stuff we have LOL)

PS - the guy that's writes this blog - is also the guy who complains about closet sizes i.e., "they are too small"
