"Do ya' feel lucky....punk?"

I'm a big Clint Eastwood fan, and that was one of my favorite lines from the Dirty Harry series.  Hearing it now, though, I'm wondering if he was just taunting me to buy lottery tickets.  Yeah, while I'm out today I'll probably stop and buy a few tickets.  Lucky?  I dunno.  At least until the drawing tonight I can dream, right?  :)

Speaking of "take the money and run", that seems to be what the land developer is doing with the subdivision where I've been building for the past several years.  I can't say I'm surprised.  In fact, I've been expecting it.  Because of the crippled economy his property sales have been few and far between.  Let's face it....people aren't exactly waiting in line to plunk down $150K-$300K for a lot.  Now he's caved, telling me he's agreed to sell almost all the remaining lots (at a reduced price, of course) to a builder who will go in with a "value" line of homes.

For me it's either cut all sorts of corners, throw quality out the window, and go toe-to-toe with him, or move along.  That's no choice.  I suppose I'll just limp along a while longer doing small remodel jobs and hope one of my doctor connections will come through, deciding now is the time to build something newer / bigger / better.  (They'll pay for quality.)  I've always said "things happen for a reason".  I guess I'll put that to a test.

The first local Arts Fest of the year is this weekend.  Looks like Luke (K's puppy) is going out in public.  Hope he behaves himself.  Have a good weekend, everyone.

  1. Aww - I think you need to take a picture of Luke out & about - for his adoring fans :)

We've got a lottery ticket too. I wouldn't mind if we BOTH win - I think I could stand to share that much.

  2. Really if you want to win you need to coordinate with a bunch of people--like 17.6 million--have them each buy 10 different combinations of possible numbers. Then one of you would be guaranteed to win. Even if you take the cash now option of like $300 million that's still about $17 million apiece! Not a bad haul. But just try coordinating that kind of effort.

  3. I have the Dirty Harry boxed set. It will soon be time to have a Dirty Harry marathon :-)

The spec housing market has always been risky. Better to go with what you'll be paid for, rather than something for which you might, eventually, get paid. Or not.

  4. I think Florida is the only state not included in the Mega Million lottery. Baaawaaahhh!

Clint Eastwood is OK...but, as my co-worker said, "...have you seen Dirty Harry's droopy butt in 'Bridges of Madison County'?"

  5. Everything happens for a reason - I can't say I am surprised by the developer's behavior.

I do feel bad about the customers we have already built homes for their - they were expecting (and I am sure it's written down legally somewhere) their neighborhood to stay at a certain price point - to keep out the "tract" builders and now their neighborhood will be much less than what they expected.

They were sold a line of goods by the developer - do they have legal recourse? Won't their property values drop? I would be pissed off to be put in that situation by a slimeball developer and his "fire sale". The economy has really allowed us to see some people's true colors.

All I know is that you will leave that development with your ethics and morals intact - not something he can say.

I am so very proud of you (and brother-in-law "T")

  6. So the wings effectively pull air down from above, and push it down into a wide, invisible "downwash" behind the airplane.
